Smithsonian Security Guard Commits Suicide at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden

No others were injured in the shooting.

A security guard at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden shot and killed himself this afternoon.

Smithsonian Institution press secretary Linda St. Thomas confirmed that the Smithsonian employee died as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He shot himself in a non-public locker area. No others were injured in the shooting.

A public information officer at the Metropolitan Police Department confirms that police were called at 3:14 p.m. about the shooting. The Hirshhorn Museum has been evacuated.
