This course is registered for 1 HSW hour with AIA and will look at the main types of air barriers available for commercial building enclosure, which includes mechanically fastened, self-adhering, fluid applied and spray foam. It also addresses the main air barrier benefits, which include improved performance, durability, and indoor environment. While we will focus on types of air barrier membranes, it must be emphasized that air barriers must be thought of as systems which include, in addition to the primary membranes, the installation and continuity accessories. We will address how different systems have different accessories, but continuity detailing is important and critical for all systems. Take the course.
Flashing is a water-resistant sheet material that bridges and seals the gap between the window or door frame members to the adjacent construction. You could say that flashing’s mission is to manage water intrusion by providing a mechanism to drain it to the outside of the building envelope. Flashing may be one of the most under-rated building envelope components, yet arguably it is one of the most important. This course will look at the importance of flashing for windows, while also listing the different types of flashing along with the proper installation methods. This program is registered for 1 AIA CEH. Take the course.
