The 2016 Olympic Games, currently underway in Rio de Janeiro, is mired in controversy: shoddy construction, budget woes, and risks ranging from the Zika virus to the city’s high crime rates are making headlines right alongside the medal winners. But there may be a silver lining, Fast Company’s Co.Design reports, in the 11 sports facilities newly constructed or rehabbed for the event and poised to become permanent fixtures in Rio and the surrounding communities following the conclusion of the Games later this month. They include multi-use arenas, a BMX stadium, a tennis center, and a whitewater facility that will be turned into a public pool following the games.
