Although architects and artists are usually trained using more traditional mediums, some decide to apply their knowledge to ice sculpting. California-based artist Jim Denevan creates circular patterns on the surface of ice, while New York-based Sean Yoro—known for his water murals—paints human faces on melting ice to shed light on the issue of climate change. Additionally, British artist Anish Kapoor, was recently invited to enter the annual competition called Warming Huts in Canada to design structures out of ice. His entry, “Stackhouse,” was a cube hut with an embossed oval opening in its side, made entirely out of blocks of ice.
