Gentrification has become a hot topic with the recent influx of rapid urbanization, and depending on who you are, you may love it or hate it. On Tuesday, the Berlin Senate put a hault on the conversion of rental apartments into owner-occupied condominiums in an attempt to maintain a mix of social classes. This will affect about 160,000 homes and about 300,000 people in a city of 3.5 million, and could extend to a greater number in the future if the government sees success.
