Architecture writer, researcher, and former New York Times columnist Christopher Gray died on Friday in Manhattan from pneumonia caused by an underlying illness. From 1987 to 2014, Gray wrote the weekly Streetscapes column in the Sunday Real Estate section of the paper. He also authored various books on the history and preservation of New York City. The Times writes, "Mr. Gray, who was 6 feet 2 inches, had a rumpled patrician air, that of a man who would know which fork to use if confronted by three of them at a formal dinner, but could just as effortlessly eat a Papaya King hot dog at a stand-up counter."
