The three-year agreement, signed in the fall, allows the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) to more actively collaborate and exchange technical information. Areas of particular interest include: sustainability and increased public awareness regarding technology.

The memorandum, which will last from 2014 through 2017, is structured around five components: collaboration, maintaining communications, potential partnering, standards development, and shared resources.

IES and IEEE will exchange information through newsletters, announcements, and other important documents; partner on a variety of projects, conferences, and events; and may agree to collaborate on the development and clarification of standards and reference documents.
