Vue53 is the newest addition to the historical Hyde Park in Chicago. Standing at 13-stories, the apartment building, developed by Toronto–based real estate firm Avison Young and Atlanta–based student housing management organization Peak Campus, adds a Jenga block-like structure by local firm Valerio Dewalt Train Associates which now resides at 1440 E. 53rd Street. designed the 267-unit building close to the University of Chicago campus. The contextual building looks like a game of Jenga, according to Reporter Blair Kamin. He writes, “…the key to Vue53's appeal is the Jenga look, which Valerio,” one of the architects, “achieved with deep cuts in the glass and aluminum facade and boldly-cantilevered extensions. Both lighten the tower's mass and make its upper reaches appear to float over the base.” The apartment-dorm style building is geared towards college students and young working adults. A fusion of vertical and horizontal lines gives the building its appeal and uniqueness.
