While the announcement of Google’s new headquarters, designed by Thomas Heatherwick and BIG, is making waves, it was Clive Wilkinson Architects who designed the original in Mountain View, Calif. Measuring at about 2 million square feet, the structure was inspired by a university consisting of free meals, open floor plans, and cozy meeting areas. The design scheme was cutting edge, and further emulated in other work places throughout the country. And while Google plans to keep it intact, and is currently working on another complex with Wilkinson, design publication Fast Company decided to give him a call to see what he really thought of the new plans.
