Greening a Building Project through Materials
September 15, 2009, 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time
One of the most important aspects of a sustainable building project is the smart selection of materials. There is no "one size fits all" strategy with materials selection: what works for one project will not necessarily work for a similar project. Join Mark Kalin, FAIA, FCSI, LEED, of Kalin Associates, an independent specification consulting firm, as he discusses the process of greening a project through materials. He'll give an overview of strategies for selecting building materials, and how the selection process contributes to occupant's health, building durability and reductions in maintenance costs. He'll show how materials can be selected based on life cycle cost analysis and their long term sustainability. Lastly, he'll describe how products are represented in building information modeling software, including links to product manufacturers and construction specifications.
