Reporter and ARCHITECT contributor Amanda Kolson Hurley writes in Next City about the 11th Street Bridge Park project in Washington, D.C., which aims to connect two neighborhoods not only with the park itself, but with a slew of community partnerships as part of the project's Equitable Development Plan. The project's director, Scott Kratz, says he spends roughly half of his time on the development plan alone. Kolson Hurley writes: "Kratz and his collaborators are developing a new protocol for urban development, one that anticipates change in order to spread its benefits to all, and tests itself against hard metrics. If it succeeds, it will be a model for how to build a trophy urban design project while fulfilling a vision of social responsibility."
