Modernists may grieve a soon-to-be demolished residence designed by AIA Gold Medalist Louis Kahn. According to Curbed, the Morton Weiss House is in danger of being razed so that a developer, Roizman Development Inc., can build a 150-room senior rental development, along with 180 parking spaces. Built in the 1950s, the property sits in a 9.9-acre lot along Whitehall Road in Norristown, Penn.
Kahn and his partner, architect and professor Anne G. Tyng, built the one-story stone home for a local menswear retail shop owner and his wife. The three-bedroom, three-bathroom wood and stone home shares the land with another single-family residence, which would also face possible demolition.
