This holiday season, the AIA chapter of District of Columbia organized "Wonderland 2015: The Hearth," an exhibition at the District Architecture Center celebrates fire as central to the winter experience. The hearth, a symbol  for celebration and community during the holiday season, also "represents an architectural antidote to the impending dark and cold months," according to the AIA DC.

Each year, the AIA DC seeks architectural/artistic proposals for the Wonderland display. The competition features designs that "capture the magic of the holiday spirit with an underlying message of architectural interest," according to the AIA DC. This year's winners are husband-and-wife team Cooper Jones and Maureen McGee.

This year's exhibition is on display at the SIGAL Gallery storefront, part of the District Architecture Center in Washington, DC. Wonderland 2015 runs from Dec. 14 to Jan. 4.
