Brief: $44 million, 125,000-s.f. facility houses labs and offices for the Innovista Research Campus at USC, where researchers test new energy sources. A sister building is in the master plan.

Main Gervais Office TowerArchitect: DudaPaine Architects, Durham, N.C. Completion: 2010. Brief: $37.5 million, 18-story office and retail high-rise whose southern façade reflects the state capitol, with a two-story terrace and a six-story parking deck.

USC Thomas Cooper Library Special Collections Addition Architect: Watson Tate Savory Liollio Architecture, Columbia. Completion: 2011. Brief: $16 million, 50,000-s.f. addition controls indoor conditions for the preservation of rare books while admitting some daylight for a pleasant reading environment.

Mast General Store Architect: Garvin Design Group, Columbia. Completion: 2011. Brief: 42,000-s.f. renovation of historic 1920s Louries Building into a Mast General Store and two stories of apartments. The project will use $2 million in Recovery Zone Facility Bonds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
