London’s Design Museum Opening in Landmark Building in 2014

The exterior renovation of the former Commonwealth Institute building in London is being carried out by OMA as part of the landmark's transformation into the new home of the Design Museum.

The interior renovation, including this ground-floor lobby, is being executed by John Pawson.

Galleries to accomodate temporary and permanent exhibitions, education spaces, and a library, will fill hte old building. Many elements of the existing landmarked building, including its hyperbolic paraboloid copper roof (executed before the age of digital modeling) are being retained.

The gallery space in the new venue will be triple that of the institution's existing building in London's South Bank neighborhood.
