The Internship Advisory Committee (IAC) recognized seven U.S. architecture practices that support interns in the licensing process with mentoring and other resources. The Intern Development Program (IDP) Outstanding Firm Award is reserved for practices that excel in categories including mentoring, supervising, training opportunities, commitment to the IDP, and support for the Architect Registration Exam, and have demonstrated an innovative approach to supporting their interns by going above and beyond the baseline criteria.  The IDP Firm Award honors practices that meet 12 criteria in these categories.

The 2015–2018 IDP Outstanding Firm Award recipients are Forum Studio in St. Louis; HBG in Memphis, Tenn.; ZGF in Portland, Ore.; and Cuningham Group in Minneapolis. The 2015–2018 IDP Firm Award winners are Harriman in Portland, Maine; Quinn Evans Architects in Washington, D.C.; and STOA in Pensacola, Fla.

The firms receive virtual medallions for placement on their websites and maintain their award for three years.

The IAC consists of 13 members and two staff representatives from the American Institute of Architecture Students, the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture, the AIA Council of Architectural Component Executives, the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards Member Board Executives, and the Society of Design Administrators. This year’s jury included active participants in the IAC.
