Product Overview

Product Description, Applications

Founded in the late 1970s, ICS Penetron products are successfully marketed in over 60 countries worldwide.

Added to the concrete mix at the time of batching, Penetron® Admix consists of Portland cement, very fine treated silica sand and various active, proprietary chemicals. These active chemicals react with the moisture in fresh concrete and the by-products of cement hydration to cause a catalytic reaction, which generates an insoluble crystalline formation throughout the pores and capillary tracts of the concrete.

Concrete therefore becomes permanently sealed against the penetration of water or liquids from any direction. The concrete is also protected from deterioration due to harsh environmental conditions. Penetron Admix is recommended for use in:

  • Reservoirs
  • Sewage and water treatment plants
  • Secondary containment structures
  • Tunnels and subway systems
  • Underground vaults
  • Foundations
  • Parking structures
  • Swimming pools
  • Precast components

Features, Advantages

  • Resists extreme hydrostatic pressure from either positive or negative surface of the concrete slab
  • Becomes an integral part of the substrate
  • Highly resistant to aggressive chemicals
  • Can seal hairline cracks up to 1/64" (0.40 mm)
  • Allows concrete to breathe
  • Nontoxic – EPA and NSF approved
  • Less costly to apply than most other methods
  • Permanent – Added to the concrete at time of batching and therefore not subject to climatic restraints
  • Increases flexibility in construction scheduling; added to concrete at time of batching so it does not impact construction schedule
  • Recommended for use in concrete design mixes for cold climate applications
  • Protects against the effects of freeze/thaw cycling
  • Protects embedded steel from the effects of corrosion
  • Protects concrete from the effects of carbonation and the intrusion of harmful liquid borne materials
