The building program satisfies various university needs including social spaces, engagement offices, meeting and event space and food and beverage outlets. Unlike any space on campus, the building is designed provide for informal and formal gathering for undergraduates, graduates, faculty, staff and the community.
The “always open” University center aspect of the building requires various public pieces that will attract all those from the surrounding University community. The building contains multiple public areas that are organized into three distinct categories, Social and Cultural, Meeting and Event and Food and Beverage. The social and cultural component contains a large commons space, various size lounges, immersion entertainment zone and a media/technology component. The commons and event space is a large 2-story space that is interconnected with the food and beverage and the outdoors. There is also a connection to the student engagement spaces and prefunction of the large event space. The lounges are sprinkled throughout the first and second levels of the facility providing informal gathering and collaboration spaces for the students. The lounge spaces are an integral part of the circulation through the building. The immersion entertainment zone is a social and technological space for students to relax and socialize.
