Project Description

In planning for the school's new home, Haas leaders began with a clear functional goal: The design that would bring this large and complex organization together for the first time in its history must work to create community. With the selection of Moore Ruble Yudell as its architects, interest in the new building turned to excitement, for Charles Moore's approach to design is well known.

Charles Moore's lifetime of distinguished work evolved from a clearly focused philosophy. Through his practice, teaching, and writing, he moved modern architecture away from sterile abstraction toward an ethic grounded in history, place, and function. On projects as varied as the Sea Ranch condominiums in Northern California, the Faculty Club at UC Santa Barbara, and larger commissions around the world, Moore demonstrated his exuberant delight in space that creates community and buildings that "reflect the particular circumstances of place and use."

One of the most influential architects of his century, Charles Moore did not live to see his last major work completed. On the campus where he once taught, he and his colleagues have designed space that fosters community. Their work creates beauty to inspire innovation and leadership in business education.
