Project Description
A canopy of suspended bamboo poles bridges the two buildings that house the displays of the six countries and organizations participating in this cluster. Representing the Caribbean and Pacific islands, the pavilion takes on the sensory experience of an island environment through graphics of underwater imagery and quotations from maritime explorers, while also drawing attention to the fragility of local ecosystems.
FROM MILAN EXPO 2015:
A large bamboo covering will hang over and join the two pavilions hosting the participating countries while welcoming visitors in a single environment for colors and atmosphere. The external walls of the pavilions will be dotted with authors’ phrases – from Homer to Conrad, from Christopher Columbus to Darwin and Melville – calling to mind picturesque images of islands, sea, journeys.
At the end of the route, visitors will find themselves in front of a dining area and events area, a cube projecting undersea images: the impression given will actually to be under the water, enjoying a full sensorial experience, perceiving the mysterious beauty of islands while being in contact with their enchanting and frail biodiversity.
The Universities that collaborated with the Politecnico di Milano in designing the concept are the Aalto University (Finland) and the University of Tokyo (Japan).
