Greenwich, CT United States

Alex Esposito AIA, Architects

Project Description

THE GREENWICH WATER CLUB IS A MARINA RECREATION CENTER ON THE MIANUS RIVER. RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORS WERE INVITED TO TAKE PART IN APPROVAL OF DESIGNS IN ORDER TO PROTECT THEIR VIEWS OF THE WATER AND CREATE A CHARACTER CONSISTENT WITH THE SURROUNDING COMMUNITY. PHASE 1 COMPRISING A ROWING-FITNESS CENTER, MARINE RETAIL, MANAGEMENT OFFICES, AND A CLUBHOUSE AND RESTAURANT WAS COMPLETED IN 2006. ALL CONSTRUCTION IS SUPPORTED ON PILES AND GRADE BEAMS, AND DESIGNED IN ACCORDANCE WITH COASTAL A-ZONE FLOOD REGULATIONS.

MATERIALS WERE SELECTED FOR THEIR DURABILITY AND LOW MAINTENANCE IN A SALT-AIR ENVIRONMENT.

IN 2012 CONSTRUCTION BEGAN ON A CLUBHOUSE ADDITION AND NEW MAINTENANCE BUILDING. A SECOND RECREATION BUILDING IS PROPOSED FOR FUTURE CONSTRUCTION.
