This week, we’re sharing projects from Künzelsau, Germany, to Missoula, Mont. and from Zhuhai, China, to Cedarcreek, Mo., with several stops in between. In addition to the projects that we give more detailed coverage, we like to highlight some of the work that architecture firms share with us every day through the Project Gallery—the user-generated portion of our site. So far, we have more than 14,000 projects, most of which were directly uploaded by firms to share with us and our readers.
In this weekly roundup, we showcase some of the coolest new projects to be added to the gallery—thanks to architects like you.

Cushing Terrell
Salvation Army Corps Community Center
Salvation Army Corps Community Center
Missoula, Mont.
Cushing Terrell
“The philosophy of the siting was to ensure that the project provided “open arms” to guests who arrive by car, bike, or on foot, suggesting two main entries that equally face both the parking lot and the street. The result was a simple, glassy, open reception lobby that focuses its view upon the distant and picturesque Hellgate Canyon. The $2.5 million project, which achieves humble, understated warmth, public access, northwestern character, and security, was built upon the imagery of two hands coming together and reaching out — to help those in need, to worship, and to open themselves up to the needs of the community.”

General Motors IT Innovation Center Renovation + Expansion
Roswell, Ga.
Ghafari Associates
“GM’s Atlanta-area IT Innovation Center is housed in a former U.S. Postal Service office complex with an attached 81,000 SF distribution center that was initially left vacant. Ghafari was tasked with designing the transformation and expansion of this nondescript warehouse into a modern office environment that could accommodate 500+ additional team members while consolidating several remote offices.”

Whitney Cox/The Shubert Archive
Auditorium Shinn Murals House Right
Belasco Theatre
New York
McLaren Engineering Group
“Although touted by some as Neo-Georgian or Edwardian in design, the theater is uniquely Belasco-esque in style. Just like the impresario David Belasco himself, the interior theming of the intimate space is a beautifully eccentric and dramatically ornate Gaslamp fantasy of theatrical magic. Drenched in a palette of deep reds, umbers and greens, the space is adorned with a coffered ceiling, Tiffany stained glass lighting and is enclosed in classical murals. McLaren’s entertainment team served as the structural engineer to restore the interior architectural space to its original elegance. We also set out to improve patron usage and provide mechanical and electrical services. After years of disrepair, the Belasco Theatre’s interior was meticulously restored its original beauty just in time for its 100th year anniversary.”

Community Room
Missouri State University Ozark Education Center
Cedarcreek, Mo.
BNIM
“Immersed in the landscape of the Ozark Mountains, the Missouri State University Ozarks Education Center is designed to serve as a gateway for learning and observation of the surrounding state conservation areas and ecological resources. The community facility, at 4,310 sf, provides one central location to accommodate larger groups of students and researchers to take part in ecology research and education through a unique experiential lens. The MSU Ozarks Education Center reflects the natural elements of the surrounding topography and was guided by the concept of designing with a light touch, both physically and sustainably on the natural environment.”

Eck MacNeely Architects
Harbor Point House bridge tower
Harbor Point House
Green Harbor, Mass.
Eck MacNeely Architects
“The Harbor Point House sits on a prominent point at the end of Bay Avenue in Green Harbor, Massachusetts. From the point, the house has views to the harbor, the Cut River and Cape Cod Bay as both pleasure and lobster boats come and go. Strict Local, State and Army Corps of Engineers regulations required an efficient plan that was consistent with the total size of the previous shacks and decks that occupied the site. Despite those restrictions, Eck MacNeely Architects was able to provide the homeowners with five bedrooms on the second floor and an open kitchen, dining, living and entertaining plan on the first floor. The children’s wing is separated from the parent’s wing by a skylit connector with a bridge that also provides views to the harbor from the main entry. Numerous decks throughout the house compliment the plan and jut out over the surrounding waterways.”

Simon Menges
Carmen Würth Forum, Phase 2
Künzelsau, Germany
David Chipperfield Architects
“The contemplative exhibition spaces, dedicated to exquisite pieces from the Würth Collection, provide a counterpoint to the event spaces. The museum with its café and foyer includes a large, divisible exhibition hall with daylight atmosphere and a smaller, more intimate graphics art gallery. Through a glazed belvedere, the museum opens up to the vast landscape and initiates a dialogue between the works of art and the place, continued in a sculpture park set in the scenic surroundings of the Carmen Würth Forum.”

China-Israel Industrial and Creative Centre
Zhuhai, China
10 Design
“The Industrial and Creative Centre is a joint development between China and Israel to stimulate future thinking by providing incubator office space for innovative companies in Zhuhai, China. The 346,335 sqm project is a mixture of headquarter office buildings, flexible office space, serviced apartments, and small incubator office pavilions. The design is inspired by the idea of FUSION, the merging of different elements into a union while simultaneously creating high amounts of energy. The fusion of China and Israel will foster interaction, symbolically blurring boundaries and creating synergies between the two nations.”

SLO Architecture
Project Axo
ColorLab
New York
SLO Architecture
“Embodying the pedagogy of Josef and Anni Albers, we set out to define space and program within the restraints of a shoestring budget through allegories of perception. Two art-making areas radiate from a central reading corner. An enfolding lily-pad, the reading corner gathers seats beneath a cluster of giant barnacles floating overhead— an amplification of Josef Albers’s Homage to the Square, woven into a dense three-dimensional tapestry of colored fishing line. Colorwalls of cantilevered cubbies and shelving bracket the lab at twin ends, contemplating interactions of color that draw each eye out to distinct horizons from the reading corner.”

Eric Staudenmaier
Culver Steps
Culver City, Calif.
Ehrlich Yanai Rhee Chaney Architects
Completed by the Culver City-based firm Ehrlich Yanai Rhee Chaney Architects, this mixed-use project revitalizes the surrounding area, providing interior retail and office space and creating an expansive public plaza outdoors. A sculptural staircase anchors the 35,000-square-foot plaza, offering outdoor seating, shade, and thoughtful lighting. Read more about the project, which ARCHITECT featured in a recent edition of its Typology series, here.
