Finnish architect Craig Dykers, AIA, co-founder of the Oslo-based firm Snøhetta, will chair the jury for Washington University in St. Louis’s 2012 Steedman Fellowship in Architecture International Design Competition. The biennial prize, given since 1925, awards $50,000 to a promising young architect for a nine-month period of travel and research. Sponsored by the university’s Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts, the competition is open to any graduate of an accredited architecture school who is currently employed by a practicing firm—or has been employed for at least one year—and who received his or her professional degree within the past eight years. Registration will begin on Jan. 16, 2012, with competition entries due on April 2.
Dykers, whose major projects include New York’s National September 11 Memorial Museum Pavilion and Oslo’s Norwegian National Opera and Ballet, will chair the jury as the Sam Fox School’s Ruth and Norman Moore Visiting Professor of Architecture. His Norwegian Wild Reindeer Centre Pavilion (shown on left), overlooking the Dovrefjell mountains, won the Display Building of the Year award at the 2011 World Architecture Festival, in Barcelona.
He will be joined on the Steedman jury by Brad Cloepfil, AIA, principal of Allied Works Architecture in Portland, Ore., and New York; and by Sarah Dunn, AIA, and Martin Felsen, AIA, principals of UrbanLab of Chicago.
