AIA New York has announced 35 winners of its 2017 Design Awards, which recognizes a winning project's “design quality, response to its context and community, program resolution, innovation, thoughtfulness, and technique.” The awards themselves will be presented at a symposium on April 21 at the Center for Architecture, according to AIANY's press release. In order to qualify, submissions had to be either projects completed by AIANY members, architects, or designers practicing in New York or projects in New York designed by architects and designers based elsewhere.

Selected from a pool of 379 entries, the 35 winners were split across four categories: 14 in Architecture, nine in Interiors, eight in Projects, and four in Urban Design. Twenty-two of the 35 are in New York City. The jury was made up of Barbara Bestor, FAIA, Bestor Architecture; Hagy Belzberg, FAIA, OAA, Belzberg Architects; Tatiana Bilbao, Tatiana Bilbao ESTUDIO; Elizabeth P. Gray, FAIA, Gray Organschi Architecture; Anne Fougeron, FAIA, Fougeron Architecture; V. Mitch McEwen, McEwen Studio; and Peter Waldman, School of Architecture, University of Virginia.

The winning projects will be recognized at the Honors and Awards Luncheon on April 21 at Cipriani Wall Street. Following the ceremony, the projects will be exhibited in the 2017 AIANY Design Awards exhibition at the Center for Architecture through May 6.
