As of today, July 1, ownership of the Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals has been transferred from the J. Paul Getty Trust to Columbia University. For the past 26 years, the index has been a joint venture between the trust and Columbia. This spring, the Getty Research Institute announced it would be returning the index to Columbia, where it was started in 1934.

The Avery Index offers an encyclopedic listing of journal articles published across the globe on architecture and design, city planning, interior design, landscape architecture, and historic preservation. Recently, the index moved from print to internet-based distribution and has seen its subscription numbers increase. Currently, there are some 225 institutional subscribers.
