Whether you call it resimmercial or commercidential, this blurring of the residential and commercial sides of design isn’t necessarily new. But the trend definitely is evolving. One of the main questions: “Where do we draw that line between interior and exterior, between public and private, to create a holistic design which provides an experience for whoever’s using it in whatever use?” says Andrew Kotchen, a founding principal at Workshop/APD.

In this Studio Session, ARCHITECT Editor-in-Chief Paul Makovsky talks about resimmercial design with Kotchen and Jackie Schneider, vice president of marketing at Hearth & Home Technologies. They examine case studies and dive into how the COVID-19 pandemic has changed, and will continue to change, the design of public and private spaces, along with many other angles of the evolving resimmercial design trend.
