Anyone in Austin knows that Polvo's is the best Mexican restaurant in the world. On Thursday, Texas architects have a fine reason to book a table there: It's just around the corner from our Integrated Design Workshop.
John Boecker, AIA, is leading the "Integrated Design for Achieving Maximum Building Performance" workshop on May 9 at Vuka Coop. Presented by ARCHITECT and AIA Austin, the event will feature case studies demonstrating efficient and inefficient systems. Boecker will take participants through models that illustrate how integrative design can eliminate redundancies. Read all about the program here.
Boecker, a founding partner of 7group, is the author of The Integrative Design Guide to Green Building: Redefining the Practice of Sustainability (Wiley, 2009). He was the co-host of the Voice America program, "Building Deeper Green: Reframing Sustainability."
If Polvo's exotic salsas aren't enough to lure you to South First in Austin, how about free tickets? Here's your chance to win a free pass to the workshop. Just answer Tuesday's question correctly in the story's comments section: Who rehabilitated the 30,000-square-foot former paper warehouse into the nonprofit office space pictured below?

Check back on this post every business day at 12:00 noon EDT through Thursday, May 9, for a new question and a new chance to win. Plus, every successful answer will be entered in a raffle for one of three pairs of tickets for the AIA Austin 2013 Homes Tour. ARCHITECT will announce winners here and over Twitter via @architectmag.
Please be prepared to attend the event if you answer correctly. Transportation and boarding costs aren't included.
UPDATE (5/8): The winner of the last ticket is Bob Carter! He answered correctly that Lake|Flato designed the Livestrong Foundation headquarters in Austin—a project that earned the firm an AIA COTE Top Ten Award in 2011.
UPDATE (5/6): Monday's winner is Jamie Crawley, AIA! He answered McKinney York Architects as the firm responsible for the renovation of the former American National Bank building in downtown Austin. The project, now the McGarrah Jessee office building, won a 2012 Annual Design Review award. For the correct answer, @falloutstudio wins a ticket to the Integrated Design workshop. Congrats!
UPDATE (5/3): The winner of Friday's contest is Susan Welker, AIA! She correctly named Lewis.Tsurumaki.Lewis Architects as the designer behind the renovation for the former Arthouse at the Jones Center (now the Austin Museum of Art-Arthouse). Thomas de Monchaux reviewed it upon its opening in June 2011. "In its ingenuity and interactivity, the Arthouse—a remarkable, direction-setting project by New York firm Lewis.Tsurumaki.Lewis Architects (LTL)—reimagines restoration and renovation as methods of architectural intervention and invention," he wrote. Revisit that review here. Congrats, @ladyaia!
Check back on Tuesday, May 7, for another chance to win.
