Mancini Duffy, a New York City-based architecture firm with offices in New Jersey, Connecticut, and Washington, D.C., has announced a merger with two D.C.-area practices, Michael Winstanley Architects Planners and Still & Svitchan Associates. Michael Winstanley will become the managing principal of the D.C. regional office and will also join Mancini Duffy's firmwide leadership team. Still & Svitchan partners Doug Svitchan and George Eisenberger will join the firm as partners. The D.C. office of Mancini Duffy, which had 25 staff prior to the merger and will absorb everyone from both firms—seven from Winstanley and three from Still & Svitchan—will be known as Mancini Duffy/Winstanley.
"We're maintaining [my] office in Alexandria[, Va.,] right now," says Winstanley, who will operate out of Mancini Duffy's D.C. digs on K Street, N.W. "Right now we're sorting out who will sit where. We're moving main operations into downtown D.C., but we'll keep the Alexandria office as a project workspace." Winstanley's firm, founded in 2004 and known for its master planning and design work, currently has two large projects under way in Texas and San Diego. Still & Svitchan, an 18-year-old firm, works on a wide range of building design and design-build projects, from office design to government buildings to airport concourses. Post-merger, says Winstanley, Svitchan will lead the office's government practice, while Eisenberger will oversee project quality assurance and technical reviews.
