130 Grotke Road might have the clean lines and airy atrium of a sunny West Coast residence, but the midcentury house is nestled into the woods of Ramapo, N.Y. One of only three East-Coast projects by famed California developer Joseph Eichler with Los Angeles Modernist design firm Jones & Emmons, the 2,060-square-foot house has five bedrooms and two bathrooms on a single-story, open-floor concept. After selling in 2017 for $475,000, 130 Grotke Road has been updated and is back on the market for $575,000.
After purchasing 140 acres of land in Rockland County, N.Y., Eichler built 130 Grotke Road in 1962 as part of a 216-unit planned neighborhood. However, after completing three of the houses in his acclaimed flat-roofed, open style, Eichler deemed the project unprofitable, opting to abandon his plans and return to work on the West Coast.
Situated on .32 acres of wooded land, 130 Grotke Road contains seven rooms with wide-plank flooring centered around a sky-lit atrium. A combined large living and dining room features exposed beams and a wood-burning fireplace, and the kitchen is fitted with modern appliances. The current owners have also updated the house with repairs to the roof, new windows, and freshly painted rooms.
130 Grotke Road in Ramapo, N.Y. is listed by Devorah Sekula and Avigayil Perlman with Q Home Sales.
