An urgent news release issued by the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) sent late Tuesday evening alerts its members that the Texas Legislature is scheduled to vote today on Texas House Bill 2649. The proposed legislation relates to the regulation and practice of engineering and lighting design. Specifically, Sections 3, 5, and 6 restricts the practice of lighting design only to licensed engineers, architects, engineers, landscape architects, and interior designers. The bill makes no recognition of the National Council on Qualifications for Lighting Professions exam or individuals who have passed this exam and received the Lighting Certified (LC) designation. If passed, the proposed legislation would go into effect on Sept. 1, 2009. More
The IALD's Washington, D.C., chapter is hosting a social happy hour on Thursday, April 3, 2008 from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Illuminations in Georgetown, located at 3323 Cady's Alley. As a special feature, local student-designed lighting fixtures will be displayed, and the students will be on hand. More
The International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) is searching for an Energy Affairs Consultant to direct the organization's Energy Affairs and energy-related policy development. The Energy Affairs Consultant will be the key focal point of IALD's energy and sustainability activities and will operate with considerable autonomy. The International Association of Lighting Designers' (IALD) participation at Greenbuild 2006, the largest green building conference in the United States, was a positive return on investment based on the response given by visitors to the association's tabletop exhibit. Greenbuild, the annual conference of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), marks the second exposition, in recent history, at which the IALD has exhibited outside of the traditional lighting industry venues. And what a time it was: The IALD's 35th anniversary celebration, held October 14 in New York City, was an appropriate bash for a community that-everyone seemed to agree-has a 'bright' future. With much to be proud of in its three and a half decades, the association is in the prime of life. But, it was also agreed, there are a number of challenges ahead. More
