The Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence is located in a century old hedge grove in rural Kansas. The natural scenic location and relationship between exterior and interior influenced the architecture and lighting design.
The lobby supports informal gatherings as well as a kitchen alcove and storage needs. Linear fluorescent coves are incorporated into the ceiling perimeter to provide additional ambient light.

Daylight in combination with electric light frames the sanctuary stage. Flush-mounted MR16 downlights configured in an irregular pattern provide general lighting for the seating area.
The stage is illuminated with a combination of PAR38 tracklights concealed above the ceiling, linear fluorescent coves that wash the back stage wall, and indirect illumination of the wood ceiling above the stage.

The new sanctuary addition nestled between the hedge trees and the historic schoolhouse structure offers a site sensitive response to scale, materiality, shelter, and expanse.
