The American Institute of Architects' 2010 AIA Jury of Fellows recently announced that it has named 134 members to the College of Fellows in recognition of the excellence of their professional practice and their significant contributions to architecture and society. Architects elevated to the fellowship have been AIA members for at least 10 years, and many of them have served as leaders in the national organization or at the chapter level. New Fellows were nominated for one of the five following contributions:
- (Design, Preservation) Promoted the aesthetic, scientific, and practical efficiency of the profession through excellence of design or preservation;
- (Education, Practice) Advanced the science and art of planning and building by raising the standards of architectural education, training, and practice;
- (Leadership) Coordinated the building industry and the architectural profession by taking leadership roles in the AIA or in related professional organizations;
- (Public Service, Government/Industry Work) Advanced human living standards and improved the environment through public service or work with a government or industry organization;
- (Volunteerism, Service to Society, Alternative Careers) Increased the profession's relevance through volunteer or other work that performs a service to society.
