In 2003, the family of Scottish architect Basil Spence (1907–1976) gave The Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland 40,000 items from the noted modernist’s archives. Now, a century after his birth, the commission and the National Galleries of Scotland have collaborated to celebrate Spence through this website, an exhibition currently making its way around the U.K., and a major retrospective that will open later this month.

So Albo Jeavons didn’t beat out Billie Tsien and Tod Williams for the chance to design the Barnes Foundation’s new Philadelphia digs. That’s no surprise, as the local artist wasn’t even on the shortlist. Nevertheless, the self-described anarchist has offered up the ArtJail, which combines the Barnes’ cultural focus with the services of the juvenile detention center that previously occupied the site. As with any website that depends on user-generated content, the videos on Green Energy TV are of uneven quality. But there is a lot of good information to be found on this eco-focused “channel” that launched in January, such as a documentary of the Morning House (shown), Pennsylvania State University’s entry in the 2007 Solar Decathlon.
