In the early 1980s, construction authority George Heery—architect, author (Time, Cost, and Architecture), and currently CEO of Brookwood Program Management—started developing what has come to be known as bridging, a project delivery method that is, put simply, a hybrid of design-build and design-bid-build. Since 2001, the public radio show Smart City has examined the issues that shape metropolitan areas by holding discussions with policy, planning, and business leaders as well as with academics, artists, and others addressing life in the city. Host Carol Coletta's résumé includes a fellowship in community building at the University of Miami School of Architecture and time as director of the Mayor's Institute on City Design. Now she runs the nonprofit CEOs for Cities (www.ceosforcities.org).
