The National Building Museum in Washington, D.C., housed in the former Pension Bureau Building, has a vast interior hall that is 75 feet tall and measures 316 feet by 116 feet. It’s a majestic space that visitors will be able to enjoy in a new way this summer. The museum commissioned an indoor miniature golf course that was sponsored, designed, and built by local architects, contractors, landscape architects, and other industry pros including Hanley Wood, Custom Home’s parent company.
Some participants based their designs on real works of architecture or landscape design, such as famous buildings, bridges, parks, or monuments. Others created fantastical architectural-themed holes like one with long-lasting helium balloons as a whimsical take on trees. The course celebrated its grand opening July 4 and remains open through Labor Day, with extended evening hours till 9 p.m. on July 26 and Aug. 23. Each round is $5 per person; museum members and anyone with an exhibition admission ticket pay $3 per round.
To inspire the competitive spirits of the design and construction teams, the museum is inviting industry experts to select a Best in Show and players can vote on a People’s Choice award for their favorite hole. The participating teams vying for those prizes are:
