A leading German healthcare-architecture firm, TMK Architekten • Ingenieure, is merging with HDR Architecture, a global architecture firm. The resulting company, HDR TMK, will serve as a hub for HDR's healthcare, science, technology, and design services across Europe.
The former TMK Architekten firm maintains offices across Germany—in Berlin, Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Erfurt, Kiel, and Leipzig—and it has built more than 1,500 healthcare projects throughout Europe over its 50-year history. Following the acquisition of the German firm, which employed some 200 people, HDR's workforce is even more international in scale: More than 20 percent of HDR staff work outside the United States.
"Both firms are compatible on many levels, specifically in our commitment to our clients and to design excellence,” says TMK senior partner Guido Messthaler. “The merger will deepen our healthcare expertise and enable us to reach deeper in the European marketplace. And with access to HDR’s expertise and portfolio, we will also be able to further develop work in the science and technology and higher education markets.”
