According to Water: United States, a report by Freedonia Focus Reports, the following trends are expected to cause U.S. water withdrawal to total 122 trillion gallons in 2022:
An uptick in overall electricity generation
Expanding manufacturing and mining activity
Population growth
Agriculture, although technologies that allow farmers to maintain or increase production levels with less water will hold the line on consumption even though Acreage is expected to rise slightly.
