Bosch Thermotechnology's new hydronic air handler works with a home's tankless water heater to efficiently warm a house.

The Bosch Hydronic Air Handler connects seamlessly with the firm's Greentherm tankless water heater, transferring the unit’s highly-efficient hot water through a hydronic heating coil. As the hot water circulates through the pipe, warm air is sent through the residential duct system. The unit can replace furnaces with a ducted system, the company says, eliminating the need for a gas pipe, venting and fresh air intake required for furnaces.

The entire system is easily managed by an integrated control board that connects to the home’s thermostat, according to the firm. When the thermostat calls for heat, the air handler immediately activates the integrated pump, turning on the fan 30 seconds later, allowing the heat exchanger to preheat to deliver comfortable warm air from start-up. After the thermostat is satisfied, the blower runs an additional 30 seconds to deliver conditioned air. In addition, it has an integrated pump timer that turns on the water circulator for 2 minutes every six hours to help prevent bacteria growth in the hot water system.

The Bosch air handler may be configured to work with A/C systems, providing a complete heating, cooling, and hot water solution. When the thermostat calls for cooling, the control board activates only the blower.

Two models – AHU 50 and AHU 70 – can be sized with most cfm and BTU output ratings to suit most typical size homes. The product carries a limited five year parts and one-year limited labor warranty.
