Project Description
This 50,000 sf condominium is located in Manhattan’s SoHo district, a landmarked neighborhood noted for its cast iron architecture from the late 19th century. The six-story building is deferential to the pedestrian scale of the neighborhood with a massing that matches the height of adjacent structures. The design offers a contemporary interpretation of the neighborhood’s cast iron architecture; articulating traditional characteristics such as uniform composition, column and spandrel vocabulary, and prefabricated construction in a highly modern tone. Exterior materials including stainless steel, brushed aluminum, metal mesh, and exterior shades are layered to create the depth and texture that exemplifies cast iron façades. Inside, the building houses five, two bedroom units; four, three-bedroom units; and a penthouse. Retail space is located on the ground level, along with the residential lobby and an entrance to private underground parking. The lobby includes two 56 sf terrarium gardens located on either side of the entrance and visible to the public from the street. The terrariums are filled with a mix of long-leafed flowering plants and sculptures by artist Paula Hayes. The right side garden features a gazing globe pedestal while the left side garden features a hanging trapeze chandelier sculpture. The interior panels and frames of the window displays match the building powder coated aluminum façade.
