Project Description
For as little as $55K per unit, this municipally-funded multifamily project houses 24 low income families in rapidly-gentrifying East Austin. Intimately proportioned courtyards conserve groves of native trees and create a small-scale, communal environment. Efficient unit planning met stringent budget requirements, and generous balconies maximize exterior living space. Airy covered stair canopies enliven the courtyards and foster a sense of belonging and security. Standard building materials utilized throughout the project are thoughtfully detailed, resulting in a simple and refined aesthetic. Anderson Village was awarded a prestigious 4-Star rating from Austin Energy’s Green Building Program and achieved the goals of the City of Austin’s SMART Housing Program. Pragmatic yet considerate design coupled with the larger goals of equity, accessibility, and safety merge to create a space of decency and dignity for low income families.
