Merit, Kitchen In A Remodeled Home—Over 3000 Square Feet
The owners loved the old barn on their property and didn’t want it to languish: They wanted to use it for good times with family and friends. But every serious party space needs a kitchen that makes entertaining a pleasure. Here, the challenge was creating one that would help retain the barn’s original character. For this timber-frame room to keep its country charm, using the reclaimed lumber from the site and the original barn was essential. Salvaged wood is used on the floors, as well as for the kitchen prep table, and the cabinetry. Beloved items that the owners had tucked away in storage—an antique icebox, a range hood—are incorporated into the kitchen’s design, too, making the barn feel homey. Stainless finish in the kitchen helps emphasize the timber-frame personality of this spacious, old place, underscoring its rustic beginnings.
