Project Description
Thos. Moser is proud to have been selected to design and build American made handcrafted furniture throughout the administrative spaces of the George W. Bush Presidential Center on the Southern Methodist University campus in Dallas. The state-of-the-art facility, designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects with furniture selection by Gensler and Blasingame Design, and landscape architecture by Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, opened to the public in April 2013. The Center is home to the George W. Bush Library and Museum, The George W. Bush Institute, and the George W. Bush Foundation.
Moser was commissioned to outfit three of the most prestigious areas of the library. In the Bush Institute, fellows enjoy a beautiful periodical library. Moser worked with the design team to develop custom, configurable pedestal reading tables. Accompanying the tables are our hallmark Harpswell Chairs as well as occasional tables. Rectangular tables and a custom-built proctor’s desk are featured in the Research Room of the George W. Bush Library. In the Center’s public spaces custom benches will provide seating for visitors. Large conference tables and credenzas were designed for the Foundation’s five conference rooms.
Our relationship with the George W. Bush Presidential Center began when Moser was commissioned to build ceremonial seating for the Papal visit with the President in April 2008 on the South Lawn of the White House. A pair of walnut Harpswell Chairs with cream leather fabric were provided for seating on the presentation podium during the welcoming ceremony. These chairs as well as photographs of the ceremony will be on display at the Library’s museum. Tom Moser, and his sons Aaron, David and Andy also attended the ceremony as invited guests. Moser was selected to build the chairs because of the administration’s desire for American made, high quality furniture. We are proud that our relationship continued and we were asked to be a part of the historic Bush Presidential Center.
