Project Description
FROM DXA STUDIO:
Modo Yoga NYC will expand its New York City presence in 2015 with a new location in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. DXA studio worked closely with the owners to create an environment that embodies their “calm mind, fit body, inspired life” core principles.
Offering a state of the art facility that can precisely calibrate heat and humidity settings for the two 60 person studios, and that provides ample locker room/shower spaces, social areas, and a retail amenity - the building is positioned to become a premier destination for hot yoga in New York City. It is optimally located between the East River Waterfront and the vibrant Bedford Avenue thoroughfare, and will have an inviting street presence with a custom fabricated storefront that can completely open up in warmer months. Its weathered steel aesthetic also references the gritty industrial and metalworking history of the area.
Within, aspects of the building’s light manufacturing character, such as exposed brickwork, tall ceilings, and column free spans are also celebrated. The design interior strikes a balance between rustic and refined, through a series of intimately scaled spaces wrapped with reclaimed wood and a green living wall, to expansive studios with clean lines and diffused lighting via continuous skylights, to provide a serene setting for yoga practice.
