Merit, Master Bath In A Remodeled Home
In its pre-remodel state, this second-floor master bath looked okay, with an enclosed shower made of stone and a large picture window facing a mirrored vanity. But what ensued was a radical redo, and the results are stunning. First, the designers knocked out not just the shower, but its south-facing wall, creating a balcony that looked out onto beautiful woodlands. Now there was light coming into the master bath from two sides. The wet room–style shower, where the vanity used to be, is walled by glass partitions that lend sleek spa styling, give the room an open feel, and let the owners take full advantage of the great new views. The shower’s mosaic tile wall has a texture that’s a little like the bark of the tree trunks now visible, thanks to a blown-out wall. One large integrated sink adds to the sleek look of the bathroom and gives a streamlined alternative to his-and-her vanity areas. The mirrors sitting over the vanity are sliding panels that reveal the old window space, reflect the room, and let light bounce all through it. (Mountain Villa Residence also won a special focus award for innovative use of materials in its powder room.)
