Project Description
Builder's Choice and Custom Home Awards Finalist
Inspired by the traditional "Onsen" Japanese hot springs bath resorts, this design fuses the long-established Japanese bath concept with contemporary design. First you cleanse your body in the shower area (made of a light-weight water-proof material reminiscent of concrete), then you enter the heated tub and open the automatic shade and sliding doors. A customized grey-water diverter valve allows the user to drain the tub water into an outdoor water feature for use in landscape irrigation. A built-in changing area is located at one end of the room and on the opposing wall, a "hidden" door is located for the homeowners to access the onsen from their master bathroom. The completely water-proof tiled floor features a curved path-way running through the room like an ancient bridge over the hydronic radiant heat system. The master bathroom features a Western style set-up for daily use including a steam shower and a floor to ceiling blue stream embossed glass tile design.
