Project Description
The city uses roads and streets as a major aspect for circulation and connecting places. But do streets
Located at one of the most famous and most used recreation promenades of the city, Bandra Bandstand has a small triangular traffic island which is now being converted into an open public space with the initiative taken by BMC and the Indian Navy and the assistance of Asif Zakaria as well. The inauguration of which will take place on 16th March 2020 followed by a small event.
The Jet Plane Park, as the name suggests, will have a Sea Harrier Aircraft, honor of the Indian Navy, passing on its legacy to the BMC which is currently decommissioned by INS Viraat.
“This is the first step towards changing the traffic junctions in the city, on how they can be perceived and be used for good by the public, applying the notion of adaptive reuse”, as quoted by Ar. Rinka D’Monte.
The main aim is to eradicate the boundary walls, which act as a physical and visual barrier for the people, and hence eliminate the separation between the park and the people, making it more accessible for all. Seating’s around the aircraft will be arranged all across the boundary of the park, sea-facing as well. The plant species used will add to the beauty of the place. The plane park will not only be a landmark for the people, but also be designed more meaningfully to be used for recreation and relaxation by the residents and the tourists.
