Project Description
River Barge Park is a new public park and boating center on a 5.5 site on the west bank of the Hackensack River in Carlstadt. DMR provided professional services to the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission (NJMC) to renovate the property, which provides public access to the 31- square mile urban estuary of the Meadowlands, and the larger New York/New Jersey Harbor Estuary. River Barge Park offers a variety of boating activities, splendid riverfront views and a tranquil setting for bird watching and environmental education.
Completed in the Fall of 2011, the building program at River Barge Park includes the Robert Ceberio Environmental Education Pavilion, an open-air, outdoor classroom; the Winter Storage Boat House, which houses the NJMC’s boat fleet; and the Paddle Center, which houses the NJMC’s canoes and provides space for indoor programs. The site also includes a 120 foot public launch ramp, 27 slip marina, 130 foot rowing dock, designated kayak/canoe launch, pile bulkhead and waterfront promenade with wonderful views.
