Project Description
Under the meticulously detailed cedar roof are rooms that create a connection to the outside. Welcoming the outdoors into the residence is a privilege the Hawaiian Islands provide for its inhabitants. This home celebrates that ability by not only utilizing large sliding doors and big awning windows for passive cooling, but also by placing 3 axial breezeways through the home. Each breezeway is a powerful architectural and functional expression that caters to the clear delineation of program and provides opportunities to see through the entire home at a glance. Each breezeway gives the resident a sense of place at any location by gazing past the different spaces within the home and upon the features of the view beyond. One may choose to retreat into one of the five private bedrooms or traverse vignettes of landscapes, floating pavers on water, sculptures, and art to arrive at platforms of water furnished with fancy umbrellas and a great place to take a nap in the shade.
