Project Description
Missoula has long-needed space and community to support younger seniors who wish to continue pursuing their active lifestyles. The Hogan warmly delivers. Prioritizing affordability and energy efficiency, the design provides private, modest-sized studio or one-bedroom apartments as well as ample public space for residents. The project creates a home for its residents, reflecting the community, care, and landscape of Missoula.
The sections of slate gray, olive green, and sand-hued siding on the exterior of the building combine with the wood paneling around the entrance and balconies to reflect the palette of the surrounding mountains. The glass door and parallel vertical windows at the entrance are framed by an open cutout resembling a gabled house, evoking expectations of a welcoming home.
These expectations are met once you step inside. Greeted by a large, open common space complete with lounges and kitchens, you immediately recognize that this is a place to gather. Similar areas for cooking and conversation occupy each floor, ensuring that residents share the experience of living in the Hogan with each other.
The design of these common spaces is seamlessly reflected in the individual apartments of the residents. The dark wood fixtures and bright splashes of yellow and orange harmonize with the bright airiness from the large windows and balconies, bringing the outdoors in as residents enjoy every aspect of privacy, convenience, community, and mobility.
The Hogan, with its environmental prioritization, affordability, and design rooted in the creation of a comfortable home, will serve the aging population of Missoula for years to come.
