Project Description

In collaboration with AJC Architects as Executive Architect and SRG Partnership as Associate Architect.

The Westpointe Career & Technical Education Center (WCTEC) is a state-of-the-art technical education facility that prepares students for successful careers in regional business and industry. The Center allows SLCC to fulfill its mission as Salt Lake County’s primary post-secondary provider of workforce education.

A technically sophisticated facility for hands-on learning, the Center offers the highest possible levels of life safety, security, daylighting, clean air, and the efficient use of energy and water in support of all activities held within. The flexible and adaptable building responds nimbly to the changing needs of the surrounding community, and works to express clearly Salt Lake Community College’s goals and values to its immediate learning community and to greater Salt Lake County. On a highly visible site, the Center’s massing demonstrates its function and interior program while, inside, visual transparency puts training on display to motivate and inspire students.

The WCTEC brings together technical education in multiple advanced manufacturing trades vital to the long-term economic vitality of the Salt Lake Valley, including Composites, Plastics, Machining, Welding, Electronics, Diesel Technology and CDL Truck Driving. The building includes skills labs, classrooms, faculty offices and administrative support. In addition, the building provides space for collaboration with industry partners in multiple fields. The WCTEC supports current and future training needs in flexible, high-quality space that will serve Salt Lake Community College for decades to come.
